Agenda
The agenda is preliminary and subject to change as speakers and sessions are confirmed. The Deep Dive will begin with a short international outlook, followed by a working session. We will conclude the event with lunch.
International outlook
We will begin with perspectives from a small group of leading international thought leaders working close to developments in AI, technology and children’s rights.
They will share what they are seeing now, what is changing, what may be around the corner and which developments we should be paying particular attention to.
The outlook will bring fresh perspectives on how children are beginning to interact with AI, how safety risks are evolving, and how technology, regulation and industry responses are developing internationally.
These perspectives will set the stage for the follwing session.
Deep Dive: Helping Children and Families Use AI Assistants Safely and with Confidence
What do children and families need to use AI safely and with confidence in everyday life?
As AI becomes a more natural part of children’s and families’ everyday lives, new questions arise around trust, guidance, age-appropriate design and safety. This session will explore what children, young people and parents need in order to navigate AI with confidence, and how the tech industry can respond through safer, more transparent and more supportive design – including tools such as chatbots and AI assistants.
We will explore:
- how AI tools can be designed to reduce risks and support safer use
- how safety features can reflect children’s real-world use of AI
- transparency, trust and responsible AI
- parental support, guidance and the safeguards families need
The session will explore how telecom and technology companies can better support children and families in their everyday use of AI, while also helping to prevent and disrupt serious harm, including child sexual abuse.
How we will work
This is a working forum for shared learning, critical discussion and problem-solving. It is not a platform for pitching products, services, companies or individual initiatives.
Participants are encouraged to bring relevant experience, examples and ideas into the discussion, but the focus is on the questions we need to solve together: what works, what is missing, where the difficult trade-offs lie and where there may be opportunities for collective action.
Expected outcomes
The aim is to leave the Deep Dive with a clearer view of:
- what children, young people and parents need from AI-enabled services and digital safety solutions
- where current tools, safeguards and approaches are falling short
- opportunities for telecom operators, technology companies and other actors to strengthen support and protection
- areas where industry, academia and child rights experts can work together
- concrete questions, actions or opportunities to take forward after the meeting
Key outcome: A small number of concrete areas where participants can help move the work forward for children and families in an increasingly AI-influenced world.
Lunch
We will conclude the Tech Think Tank with lunch and an opportunity to continue the conversation informally.
Chatham House Rule
To encourage an open and candid discussion, the event will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
This means that information shared during the meeting may be used and quoted, but the identity and affiliation of the person who shared it must remain confidential.
